Analysis of Questionnaires

Women analysis 1

Out of 100 surveys, 39 people were women and age between 18-24. Research shows that 24 women say they are active. Almost half of the women stated they were neither satisfied or dissatisfied with their body. 15 girls indicated they were dissatisfied and 1 very dissatisfied. 56.41% agreed that there is an ideal body shape to conform with the follow comments such as ‘slim, slender and toned’ commonly cited. 26 females said that feelings about their body affects their self-esteem. Only 1 person declared that they don’t use social media, whereas the others 38 women do. The one female that claimed to not use social media is aged between 35-44. It has been shown that more females are dissatisfied with their body image as opposed to the satisfied women. However, 16 females chosen neutral. Perhaps these women aspire fitter bodies, though they are satisfied with their current shape.

Men analysis 1

59 males participated in this survey and 48 claimed they are active. Out of 59 guys, 20 said they were dissatisfied in their body image and 4 very dissatisfied. The results were almost even when asked if they agreed that there’s an ideal body shape to conform. The common word the guys mentioned was ‘muscular and athletic’, some stated athlete’s names, suggesting that they desire or are inspired to be let them. 54.24% claimed that their feelings about their body image does not effect their self-esteem. 37 guys said they use social media sites and 8 claimed they do not. The men that claimed to not use social media sites were in the 45-54 age group. Overall, the quick survey provided me with general insight of men’s opinions about their body image and to see whether they are concerned. It seems that guys are dissatisfied with their image more than women, however there were 20 more males than females participating in the survey. If there was a fair balance between men and women, perhaps the results could be similar.
